The Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization (NGDISM) Grant Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), provides $98 million in funding for municipalities and community-owned utilities to improve the safety and reliability of natural gas distribution systems. Eligible applicants include city, county, township, special district, and tribal governments, as well as nonprofit and municipally or community-owned utilities (excluding for-profit entities). There is no cost-sharing requirement, awards range from $10,000 up to $98 million, and PHMSA expects to make approximately 200 awards. Applications must be submitted electronically by May 22, 2026, with only one application allowed per applicant.
