On November 22, 2017, KMEA entered into a purchase agreement with Buckeye Wind Energy LLC for the purchase of 40.95 megawatts of capacity and energy from the Buckeye Wind Energy Center located in Ellis County, Kansas. Twenty-one (21) of our members are participating in this long-term, very economical energy supply ranging from a 0.2 megawatt share for one of the smaller communities to a 15 megawatt share for one of the larger member communities. This project is the first wind resource for many of the participating members. The project began providing wind power to our members beginning on June 1, 2018.
