We are pleased to announce the recipient of the 2020/2021 Dedicated Commitment to Service Award, Manny Milbers, Power Plant Superintendent for the City of Beloit. The Dedicated Commitment to Service Award, established in 2016, is presented by KMEA to recognize an employee of a KMEA member city who has, over a period of years, demonstrated outstanding performance and made significant local contributions to their municipal utility.
Manny Milbers started his career with the City of Beloit in the power plant on June 8, 1999. He was a power plant operator until 2015 when he was promoted to Power Plant Foreman. In 2018, he took on the role of Power Plant Superintendent. During Manny’s tenure with the City of Beloit Electric Utility, he has been proactive in maintaining and upgrading the facility including new cooling towers, new water jacket pipes for the generators, system reclosure upgrades, and a key resource in the latest solar farm project. Manny was invaluable during the 2021 cold weather event as he kept the power plant operating so that residents had electricity. This also allowed the utility to avoid a massive negative financial impact. This was only possible thanks to Manny and his team being proactive in maintenance and knowledgeable in operating in extreme conditions. Manny is always prepared!
Manny has served on the KMEA Board of Directors since 2016 and is an active EMP2 member. Manny also gives back to his community with one of his passions being Disc Golf. Thanks to Manny’s leadership, Beloit’s disc golf course located in Chautauqua Park recently received a grant for all new baskets. Manny personally helped install the baskets upon acquisition. This upgrade will allow the city to continue to host disc golf events including an annual disc golf championship.
Manny is married to his lovely wife Beth. He has three sons Kevin, Jonathan, and Christopher. Christopher tragically passed away on August 7, 2021. Manny also has four grandchildren- Paxton, Nora, Elijah, and Aria.
KMEA would like to personally thank Manny for a job well done. There’s no doubt he has made
significant local contributions to his municipal utility, community, and KMEA.
