The conference held on October 23 and 24, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas, was a significant event that brought together member cities, vendors from the energy world and KMEA/KMGA staff. Hosted at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview, the conference featured a packed schedule filled with insightful sessions and networking opportunities.

The conference kicked off with  KMGA and KMEA Board of Directors meetings.

The evening featured a reception and a recognition banquet, where the award winners were recognized for the significant contributions they made to their communities.

The first major session of Day 2 was an Energy Market Overview presented by Chris McCarthy from NextEra Energy Resources.

The day continued with breakout sessions, including:

  • Natural Gas Market Update by Alan Pederson from Woodriver.
  • FERC 2222 Update presented by Heather Starnes and John Krajewski, which addressed regulatory changes impacting the industry.
  • A session on What AMI Can Do for Your Utility by Willie Nickson and Andrew Mitchell from Tantalus.
  • Integrated Marketplace: Day-Ahead Market by Becky Gifford and Courtney Clifton from SPP.
  • Annexations and Retail Electric Supplier Selection by Andrew Schulte from Polsinelli
  • Craig VanWey from the Kansas Department of Commerce discussed strategies for preparing communities for business development, emphasizing the importance of proactive planning.

After the breakout sessions the conference continued with a Legislative Update from Brad Mears and Kimberly Svaty, providing critical insights into upcoming legislative changes affecting the energy sector.

The conference was closed with a presentation from the Keynote Speaker David Nurse, who inspired attendees with his insights on how to go to the next level using his breakthrough formula.
