We are pleased to announce the recipient of the 2020/2021 Max Embree Distinguished Service Award, Lindsborg City Administrator, Greg DuMars. KMEA established this award in honor of Max Embree, of the City of Colby, Kansas who played a leading role in the early years of KMEA. The award honors his memory and is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and devoted service to both KMEA and Public Power.
Greg has served as City Administrator for the City of Lindsborg since November 1998 and has been active in managing the city’s electric utility. As a result, Lindsborg has one of the most diverse electric portfolios in KMEA’s EMP3. Other city projects that Greg has spearheaded include renovation of City Hall, opening of the downtown conference center, expansion of the wastewater treatment plant, enhancement of the downtown streetscape, implementation of the stormwater fee, development of a popular walking trail from the disused rail right of way, and purchase of the City’s Tesla.
Greg has served on the KMEA Board of Directors since 1999, serving as President 3 different times. He has also served as a member of the Finance Committee and as Lindsborg’s EMP3 representative. In 2015, Greg was presented with the Gilbert E. Hansen Outstanding Service Award.
Greg grew up in Lindsborg and has served the community with a passion of a life-long resident. He is, to quote from Athenian oath, “transmitting Lindsborg not only, not less, but greater and more beautiful than it was transmitted to him.”
Greg and his wife Kelly have two sons and a daughter, along with a son and daughter-in-law. Greg enjoys traveling and spending time with family.
We would like to thank Greg for his many years of dedication and leadership to KMEA and Public Power and congratulate him and wish him the best on his well-deserved retirement!
