On November 22, 2017, KMEA entered into a renewable energy purchase agreement with Buckeye Wind Energy LLC for the purchase of 40.95 megawatts of capacity and energy from the Buckeye Wind Energy Center located in Ellis County, Kansas. Twenty-one (21) of our members are participating in this long-term, very economical renewable energy supply ranging from a 0.2 megawatt share for one of the smaller communities to a 15 megawatt share for one of the larger member communities. This project is the first wind resource for many of the participating members. The project began providing renewable energy to our members beginning on June 1, 2018.
