Rafael Morfin settles in as a system operator

Rafael Morfin joined KMEA in October as a system operator in the 24/7 operations department.

Rafael moved to Kansas City in the late summer of 2021 from Springfield Missouri.  He attended Missouri State University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in General Business.

Kristi Northcutt discusses new role in Lindsborg

In a recent Q&A with Public Power Current, Kristi Northcutt, detailed her priorities as the new City Administrator for Lindsborg, Kansas, which include dedicating time to get to know her team, city council members, and the mayor, as well as working hard to get to know community partners.

In late 2021, Lindsborg Mayor Becky Anderson and City Council members announced the appointment of Northcutt to be Lindsborg’s next City Administrator. The appointment was effective December 22, 2021. Northcutt succeeded longtime City Administrator Greg DuMars.

‘More, more, more’: Biden’s clean grid hinges on power lines

With its signature climate legislation roadblocked in Congress, the Biden administration is seeking an unprecedented expansion of high-voltage electric lines to open new paths to wind and solar energy.
“We obviously need more, more, more transmission to run on 100 percent clean energy … and handle all the buildings and the cars and the trucks that we’re working to electrify,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in February.

Terri Pemberton starts role at KMEA as general counsel

Terri Pemberton is General Counsel for the Kansas Municipal Energy Agency (KMEA). She received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree, with emphasis in Accounting, from Washburn University, and her Juris Doctorate, with Certificate of Natural Resources Law, from Washburn University School of Law. She is licensed to practice in both Kansas and Missouri.

KMEA and KMGA held Board meetings

After two years of virtual meetings, the boards of the Kansas Municipal Energy Agency and Kansas Municipal Gas Agency met during the KMU annual conference on Wednesday, April 27th. A virtual option was also available for those that could not attend in person.
